The intersection at Fulton and Green will be temporarily closed from Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 7:00 AM until Friday, August 24, 2018 at 4:00 PM. This temporary closure is required to install the intersection reclaimed cobblestone pavers at Green Street.

Early Thursday morning, August 9, at 7:10 AM, a 39-year-old woman was hit by a large dump truck at the intersection of Halsted and West Madison Street. The driver was attempting to make a right-hand turn as the victim was traveling northbound near the 700 block of West Madison, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The unidentified bicyclist was transported in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she died of her injuries.

Safety is one of the West Loop Community Organization’s (WLCO) top priorities, and we are committed to ensuring all of our programming initiatives are held in venues that are safe for vendors and patrons alike. Due to the construction of multiple projects along the Fulton and Green corridor, Fulton Market Expo (FMX) will be postponed until Saturday, September 22. When we return in late September, all construction on and surrounding FMX will be completed, and we will re-launch the expo with enhanced marketing and programming. We are all still very excited about FMX and all there is to come!

Due to space constraints, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) Streetscape contractor will need to temporarily close Fulton Market from Halsted to Green Streets beginning on Monday, July 9 and for a duration of five weeks. During this closure, the contractor will be required to provide accessible pedestrian access from Halsted to Green Streets at all times.

On Friday, June 29, the National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Cook County, Illinois active until 7:00 PM on Saturday, June 30. Heat Index values are forecast to meet or exceed the locally defined warning criteria for at least two days. Maximum daytime indices may be as peak at 105-110 degrees Fahrenheit with afternoon highs in the mid- to upper-90 degrees Fahrenheit.

This summer, the West Loop Community Organization will be raffling off artwork from renowned artists Lauren Asta and Jenny Vyas. From left to right, the paintings are done by Lauren Asta (4ft x 6ft), Lauren Asta (4ft x 6ft), and Jenny Vyas (3ft x 4ft). The next drawing will take place on July 19th. Tickets are 1 for $10 or 3 for $25. All proceeds benefit the West Loop Community Organization.
