The Chicago Brewseum is a non-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of beer. Its mission is to highlight the dynamic culture and innovative history of one of the world’s most vibrant industries. By using stories of the past and tales of the present, the Chicago Brewseum takes a deeper look into one of the oldest beverages and its power to build community and its importance as an ongoing cultural force.
With such a rich culinary heritage, the West Loop was a natural place for Chicago Brewseum to connect to some of these delicious tales of the past and the present. This is why it made sense for Chicago Brewseum to join as a WLCO member, to befriend the innovative entrepreneurs with amazing businesses in the area and let the neighbors know they exist.
History on Tap
Wanting to combine a love for pubs, history and her native Chicago, Liz Garibay, founder of Chicago Brewseum created History On Tap in 2002, a project that explores history through the lens of alcohol. She has created History Pub Crawls for the Chicago History Museum, an innovative approach to learning and one that combined education with socialization. This program, and subsequent programs, served as a model for future collaborations between alcohol makers and local and national museums. Liz is currently working on a History On Tap trip through Northern Spain in mid May.
What does Chicago Brewseum have in the works for 2018?
2018 is dedicated to securing out a brick and mortar location, a home for the museum (hopefully in the West Loop)with a goal of opening its doors in 2020. The vision is a 30,000 square foot facility with three galleries that feature one permanent exhibition and two temporary exhibitions. Classroom space and event space as well as a roof top beer garden are part of the narrative. And, of course, there will be beer! A brewpub, where we will make our own museum brews with our on staff brewer, will offer patrons a literal taste of the past. No other organization, like this, exists in the world.
