Morgan Street Bridge, Ramp Remain Closed for Circle Interchange Project

As part of the overall Circle Interchange project, the Morgan Street Bridge, as well as the Westbound I-290 exit ramp to Morgan Street will remain closed for reconstruction until approximately April 30, 2014.

The Morgan Street Bridge will be closed in its entirety and will be re-opened in approximately April 30, 2014.

The detour for the Morgan Street Bridge closure is Van Buren Street to Racine Street to Harrison Street.

The detour for the Westbound I-290 exit ramp to Morgan Street is:

  • From Southbound I-90/94 - exit Adams Street
  • From Northbound I-90/94 - exit Ashland Avenue, backtrack east via Jackson Boulevard or Harrison Street
  • Exiting access is prohibited from Westbound I-290/Congress Parkway

The construction contract was awarded to F.H. Paschen/S.N. Nielsen, Inc. on August 22, 2013, and the scope of work involves the complete removal and replacement of the existing bridge structure which carries Morgan Street over Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). The new bridge structure will be longer to create space underneath along I-290 westbound for the future improvements planned for the interchange between the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) and the I-290, locally known as the Circle Interchange. The new bridge will be wide enough to carry two lanes of traffic in each direction with sidewalks on both sides and will include ornamental bridge parapets, fencing and railing.
